Business Analyst SUNY Orange is seeking a collaborative, analytical problem-solver to join our Information Technology Services team as a Business Analyst. In this role, you'll help translate college-wide business needs into clear requirements and support the design of practical, user-centered solutions that improve how the College serves students, faculty, and staff.
This is not a programming or report-writing position, instead it's a great fit for someone who enjoys working with people, improving processes, and making complex things simpler. This is a primarily remote position, though some occasional on-site presence may be required.
Key Responsibilities: - Act as the liaison between technical teams and business users to ensure that solutions align with user needs and College objectives
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders to elicit, analyze, document, and validate functional requirements across departments
- Help develop and propose practical solutions - whether process improvements or system configurations?that address stakeholder needs and align with college priorities.
- Support business process analysis (BPA) and identify areas for improvement or reengineering
- Translate high-level ideas or challenges into clear, testable requirements and visual process diagrams (e.g., swimlanes, wireframes, BPMN)
- Assist in developing and carrying out test plans to ensure solutions meet business expectations
- Participate in the evaluation and implementation of new systems, upgrades, or process enhancements
- Assist with data quality assessments and process documentation
- Build strong working relationships with faculty, staff, and administrators across departments
- Support multiple projects or work orders simultaneously, helping prioritize tasks in coordination with stakeholders
- Support the ITS division in solution discovery and long-term systems improvement
Job Requirements:
Education Required: Bachelor's degree or higher in Management of Information Systems or related field; or Associate's degree in related field with 3 years of experience.
Experience Required: Experience with business process analysis, experience delivering working IT business solutions based on goals and needs. Experience with requirements elicitation, analysis and documentation. Experience with application design, implementation and development.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics: - Experience with an Enterprise Information System (ERP) or Student Information System (Ellucian Banner preferred)
- Improvement and re-engineering experience in a higher education setting
- MBA
- Community College experience.
- Strong Analytical and Problem-Solving skills with the ability to discern the "Big Picture".
- CBAP Certification (Certified Business Analysis Professional).
- Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong communication, leadership and facilitation skills.
- Experience with software development methodologies.
- Ability to learn and understand complex topics.
- Knowledge of BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation).
- Knowledge of SQL and Pl/SQL.
- Knowledge of the Linux command line.
- Interest in data storytelling through qualitative and quantitative data analytics
- Foundational Excel and Power Point skills
- Demonstrated experience in data management and business process analysis is a plus
- Ability to create reports, Cognos experience preferred
- Perform well under pressure, within time constraints, with a high degree of accuracy, diplomacy and confidentiality.
- Ability to coordinate workflow while dealing with multiple projects and deadlines.
- Ability to present complex information and data in coherent fashion
- Must be able to travel between the college's two campuses and other sites.
